Resources Relating to the LXX

VaticanusThe significance of the Septuagint (LXX), the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, for the study of the text of the Hebrew Bible, the formation of the biblical canon, and the background of the New Testament, among other things, is inestimable. In fact, scholarly interest in the Septuagint is at an all-time high -- inspired in part to the new understanding of the development biblical text and canon necessitated by the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The Septuagint was the Bible of the first Christians and remains one of the best witnesses to the text of the Hebrew Bible. These pages will bring together a number of the best English resources for the study and interpretation of the LXX, including texts and translations, introductory and topical works, as well as language tools.

I have also made it easy for you to purchase some of the resources I recommend by providing links to Amazon.ca (for fellow Canadians) and Amazon.com (for others) where possible.

I hope you find these resources useful.

Peace!
