1 & 2 Kings
OT Commentary Survey - Historical Books

There are a number of excellent commentaries on the book of Kings. De Vries, Cogan & Tadmor, Fritz, and Hobbs are good critical commentaries, while Brueggemann's volume, with his characteristic theological depth and insight, is ideal for pastors and teachers. I have also been impressed with the insightful literary readings offered by Cohn and Walsh in the Berit Olam series. I would have to say one of my favourites would be Long's FOTL offering, which also has an excellent introduction to historical literature. On the more popular side, Provan has the right balance between scholarship and theological application, while Nelson is also very good.
