If I were to really, really, think about it, Essential Films of 2005 for Theologians – Extended Edition is a great way to frame your point, especially when The Five Love Language Man Edition is taken into account.

A bit over the top, but a damming look at the ubiquitous charater of racism that leaves everyone culpable… in completely unrealistic and absurd ways that lack any real resonance with reality as we know and experience it.

Perhaps, I am a little unclear on the term theologian, but it seems to me that this list should be titled “Essential FIlms of 2005 for Philosophers”.

Millions is a great movie for theologians – as a test to see how they define morality. We had a long discussion about it with my teens — does giving stolen money to a noble cause make you any less of a thief?

I might also suggest Stage Beauty which explores the question of sex and gender in an interesting way – what exactly is it that makes a man a man (or a woman a woman). I’d love to hear a theologian’s take on it.

And btw, Tyler, love the new format!

Hiya:

OK–”History of Violence” was, I thought, one of the ‘best’ movies I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been telling everyone I know to see it because almost no one did (out about a week?). So I ahve to know: you apparently think that look at the table at the end was promising redemption? I thought he was SOL, that ‘the look in her eyes’ was gone. Help me here!!

Tyler, you should check out the Faith and Film Critics’ Circle awards for 2005. Millions was certainly well thought of (although I didn’t much care for it personally) and there might be a few others there you are interested in.
